ljremixed wrote in remixed

Sponsor: Orbit
Contest Type: Virtual Gift Design
Prize Pack:

  • Winner: $500 Amazon Gift Certificate, 2,500 LJ Tokens, Earth-Moving Fame
  • Finalists: 1,000 LJ Tokens
  • Participants: 500 LJ Tokens

Orbit is styling new looks and allowing users to custom-design their own screensavers and wallpapers.  They're offering a chance for our users to remix their new designs into a virtual gift, and we will make one lucky winner's user-designed virtual gift available for free to LiveJournal users via the LiveJournal homepage.

We will award a $500 Amazon.com gift certificate and 2,500 LJ tokens to the LJ user who designs the winning 212x212-pixel virtual gift. We will also make that winning gift available (for free) to all non-paid LJ users for approximately two weeks on the LiveJournal homepage.  The winner must incorporate themes from Orbit's new package designs, as seen here.  Voters will choose from up to ten finalists.  See rules here for full guidelines, specs, and info.

Submission deadline:  Friday, August 13, 2010 at 6pm PDT. Voting to follow.

To submit your entries you can post them in a comment to this post. Winning virtual gift will display on the LiveJournal homepage from (approx) August 23- Sept 05, 2010. Full contest rules can be viewed here.

The Orbit logo and other design elements from the Orbit design landing page are also available here.

Doubleclick is a system we're using for recording and serving sponsored contests - the URL will look that way whenever we need to do something sponsored. It's just us using Doubleclick account rather than Google Analytics - but we may use GA on future Remixed contests instead.

Regarding the rules, we'll update the rules to include a link to this URL and clarify that you should post your submissions in separate comments.

i can't get the walmart page to load right. it tells me to have the latest flash and java enabled, which i do.

is what's on the walmart page different from the pics on the other ilnk? and is there a good clean copy of the logo somewhere? or do we have to use the one that's posted to the LJ album?

Not sure why it's not loading for you; we're seeing it load fine on several versions. What browser and flash version are you using?

We are only able to post web resolution images for this contest, so that's why we're providing a few of the Orbit design samples (png files) along with their landing page, which shows the full range of the designs for more inspiration. Because virtual gifts are smaller sizes we think that everyone will most likely be ok with these web images plus a little creativity.

Hope this info helps. We'll find out what else we can on the landing page . . .

I like the simplicity of this one and how the orbit symbol is worked into it without being so literal! It's very nice!

Orbit summer dream:-))

Wicked stylings on the goat! +1

do I have to have a screensaver/wallpaper in order to participate? the post says orbit is letting people make their own custom wallpapers and screensavers and remix their designs into a v-gift. Then it says participants have to incorporate existing orbit designs.
I don't understand. Do I have to make a custom wallpaper? where can I find these orbit designs I'm supposed to use?

Hi- You don't need to download anything to participate; the landing page is there to show you their current branding and designs and we've included creative assets in the post. You don't need to create a wallpaper; the end submission is only a 212x212 virtual gift.

Hope that helps explain

"The winner will be asked to provide .psd files of their original design, which shall become the exclusive property of LiveJournal."

What's a .psd format? is it an image format like .jpg? just wondering.

PSD is Photoshop usual format. It may contain layers, vector objects, special effects, etc.
